This Turkey Apple Burgers recipe is my favorite turkey burger. We have been on an unhealthy eating spree lately, eating too much macaroni and cheese and pork. So this past week I made it my mission to clean up our diet and eat more vegetables and more healthy meats. I never used to be a huge fan of turkey burgers, until I began experimenting with different flavors in the patties. These Turkey Apple Burgers are perfect for Fall because there’s apple in them! I’m always looking for new ways to eat up all the apples we pick at the apple orchard. Which reminds me, I better not stay up too late writing this post because we are getting up and heading to the local apple orchard first thing in the morning! I can’t wait.
First, combine ground turkey, finely chopped apple, and spices in a large mixing bowl. Mix with your hands until well combined. When forming patties, I like to use a one-half cup so the patties are fairly uniform in size. In my experience, turkey burgers shrink and fatten up a bit when cooking, so I also like to slightly press them with my hands to make them thin.
Sprinkle oregano on top of turkey apple burgers and preheat grill. Grill on direct heat at 450F for around 30 minutes, flipping half way through. Grill until internal meat temperature reaches 165F.
Let rest at least 5 minutes before enjoying. You can eat these as a traditional burger in a bun, or without a bun with lettuce leaves as your “bun.” I’ve also chopped these up and put them in a wrap with an assortment of vegetables and hummus. These burgers pair well with Maple Glazed Carrots or Spiced Butternut Squash Soup.
